.A young Yu’s Mourning Rituals Held at Cantor Arts

Korean artist A Young Yu has made a name for herself internationally with her vibrant, striking hybrid performance and installation art that often traces her Korean lineage. Her newest exhibition, Mourning Rituals, at the Madeleine H. Russell Gallery in the Stanford Cantor Arts Center, anchors around a 22-minute performance/installation piece that invokes the power and legacy of the Korean shamanic ritual ssitkimgut, where deceased spirits are cleansed and guided to the afterlife. The piece explores themes of loss and renewal as it traces collective memories that reach back into the ancient world.
